Curious things about this website
Changes
1/13/12 - Site rewritten in HTML5, CSS3, and Fancybox2 (for image enlargement). Some images from previous versions are no longer there. Because the previous build using Fancybox 1.4 does not work on some machines, I am publishing the new version with some parts missing. I'll get to them when I get back from the field.
2/16/12 - Added temporary pages on the Ives flow in the southern part of Pinacate, Carnegie, and Tecolote.
Stereo images on a computer monitor can't be moved around so you can't "wall-eye" them like a field geologist does with pair of paper prints. In order to see computer stereo, you have to cross your eyes like you did when you were a kid. Imagine a line straight out from the center of the screen. Position your face so that imaginary line passes between your eyes. Cross your eyes so that you see four blurry images on the screen. Move your head and eyes around to fuse them into three, the middle being the overlapped right and left. With any kind of luck, depth will suddenly jump out of the middle image as your eyes focus on the screen.
If you are having difficulty, go to this website for some simple photos that are easy to view. There's a whole bunch of stuff on the web about how to do this.
Metric system - Both Mexico and all of science use it, you should too. SI (metric) areas are defined as; an "are" (pronounced "air") is 10 * 10 meters and a hectare is 100 * 100 meters (about 2 1/2 acres). One hundred Ha (hectare) is a square kilometer, a million square meters.
